Any of the hotels in downtown will be walking distance to 6th street. There are tons of bars, restraunts, clubs etc all within walking distance of eachother….also there is a free shuttle that roams around downtown.
If your looking to stay in downtown but not pay tons of money before I moved to austin I stayed at la quinta on 11th st…the prices are less expensive and its basically a block away from the state capital building and 5 blocks from the main strip…
Have fun…i just moved here and I am still getting to know the lay of the land
