If you get there in time for lunch, I highly recommend the Liberty Bar.

Stay at the Plaza or the St. Anthony.

Dinner at Zuni Grill, Boudro's (make sure you get the guacamole) or Casa Rio (the oldest restaurant on the river) if you're in the mood for Mexican food.

Go to the Landing, (jazz) Swig, (martinis) Mad Dog's (good view of the river) or the bar at the Menger. (Be sure to see the scar on the bar from Carrie Nation's ax.)

Walk past the Alamo, tilt your head and say "Gee it's smaller than I thought it would be."

Go to the Tower of the America's, tell them you're going to the bar, (so you don't have to pay eight bucks for the elevator)
have an over-priced beer and enjoy the best view in town.

The good things to see in San Antonio are:

River walk its a must,
alamo
the villita
La Canterra mall
Sea word its great also its Fiesta Texas
the missions -there are century old missions in san antonio, check them out.

driving to the city from Sea word is not too bad, you will be within 15 of everything. (avoid traveling at 5pm Mon-Fri gets jammed pack!)
The zoo its not so good, skip it.
Yes do go to Austin, see the capitol and on your way to Austin stop at San Marcos shops... you can find great deals on clothes and brand purses, glasses, shoes ;-)

Sunday nights are pretty lame. It's a shame you aren't here on a weekend night or even a Wednesday. You might try White Rabbitt or Sam's Burger Joint or even the Bonham. I would suggest dinner and a movie and to just check out the local historical areas like the riverwalk, the alamo and even places like Ripleys. Oh, I don't like the Gristmill. Pretty atmosphere if it's not cold and if it's not raining, but if you are going to spend that kind of money, go somewhere like the Silo on Austin Hwy. Or if you like Mexican food, Mi Tierra which really has that authetic San Antonio feel with the Mariachi bands and color, color, color, plus the food and drinks are great. It's in the Mexican Market on the other side of Commerce near I35.

OK, you know about the Riverwalk and the Alamo, but did you know that the Alamo is only a part of the mission story? The San Antonio Missions National Historic Park contains four other historic missions, all within a few miles of one another, and all worth seeing.

Yes, the zoo is great. Also, since you're in the neighborhood, stop by the restored Sunken Gardens, just a short walk up the sidewalk from the zoo.

If you're into gardens, the San Antonio Botanic Gardens on Funston street, not far from the zoo, is terrific at any time of year.

San Antonio also has a number of great museums, both art and historic. The McNay is a beautiful place! The San Antonio Museum of Art is also really good. If you're traveling with kids, the Children's Treehouse at Witte Museum is a blast!

Shopping? The Rivercenter Mall is on the Riverwalk. There is also North Star Mall (check out the giant boots), The Shops at La Cantera and Quarry Market, to name a few. For something a little different, visit Artisan's Alley.

You could take the time to drive to Austin for a day, but Austin is a world of it's own and really deserves more than just a day. But if you do go, a tour of the state capitol, the Bob Bullock Museum and a stroll down Sixth Street are all musts.

Have a great trip!

P. S. As Stephen T suggests, Schlitterbahn, which is in New Braunfels (just up I-35 from San Antonio) is probably the best waterpark in the US.

I would agree that on that short of a time. do the Riverwalk and see the Alamo.
On your way to Austin, go to Gruene Texas. Eat at the Grist Mill, great food and there is a great old bar, called Gruene Hall.
Have a Shiner beer

You MUST go to a Spurs game! The San Antonio Spurs are far by the most creative and funnest basketball team to watch. Trust me you will not be dissapointed by them.
