One month ago I set a goal to stay at 3 Austin boutique hotels in the hopes of providing travelers with an informative review of my stay at each hotel. As a self proclaimed, professional business traveler, I thought by publishing my experience would be helpful to those looking for a hip hotel in Austin.

Now it’s important to note that I’m not associated with any of these boutique hotels in Austin. However, I have posted an affiliate link that will pay me a very small commission if you book a hotel after visiting the link.  So, the information I provide is purely unbiased and based solely on my experience at each hotel.

For those who have never been to Austin, I can tell you it’s one of my favorite cities in the U.S. I currently live in Chicago (not for too much longer) but travel to Austin once per month for business.

Through the years, I’ve had the opportunity of staying in just about every luxury hotel in Austin. These hotels have ranged from the oftentimes inconvenient Austin airport hotels to the sometimes fun but overcrowded (weekends) Austin resort hotels.

With that being said, I had grown tired of staying at these same places and decided to change my routine by staying at the more quaint but trendy boutique hotels.

In February 2010, I booked my stay at the Kimber Modern. This place is only a half block off of Austin’s vibrant South Congress District which has all the great little shops and restaurants Austin has to offer. The Kimber Modern is an extremely modern yet warm and cozy hotel. The exterior looks more like a home than a hotel. The type of home you would expect a young architect to live in. In fact, I almost felt like I was staying in a luxurious home, which is always a comfortable attribute when traveling. With only 6 rooms, it’s easy to understand why this hotel is unlike a resort hotel.

I found the entire hotel to be impeccable and the staff to be extremely cordial. While I didn’t eat dinner at the hotel (too many restaurants in the area) I did enjoy their happy hour. They have a decent selection of wines and again, I felt like I was hanging out at a friend’s home (the hip architect friend).

The hotel has all the luxury amenities a seasoned traveler would expect including free wifi, which all hotels this day and age should have and a complimentary breakfast which was very good. They also provide free parking which can save you some money on those extended stays.

Another favorite amenity was the bed. All I can say here is COMFY!

The cost of my room was $395 which may be a bit high for some, but again this isn’t a bargain hotel. It’s a full service, luxury hotel wrapped into a quaint, trendy package and because it’s in a great part of town, you’ll be staying here for reasons beyond price alone.

Overall, I have nothing but positive feedback on this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone who’s been researching Austin boutique hotels.

Stay tuned for my next boutique hotel review where I’ll be staying at the famous Driskill hotel in downtown Austin. I’m looking forward to this, as I’ve heard many great things about the Driskill boutique hotel.
